Module Overview
The HPC cluster provides extensive
computational capabilities to researchers within the school.
Users submit jobs to a central queueing system which are then
executed on compute nodes according to availability of
appropriate resources and relative job priorities. This module
provides an introduction to using the cluster, including a
background on HPC basics, how to submit and manage jobs, and
how to make sure you do not adversely impact other users of
the cluster.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this module, participants will be able to:
- Understand the organisation of the cluster
- Understand the differences between types of jobs
- Understand the different filesystems available on the cluster
- Install software using conda
- Submit and manage jobs to the cluster
- Submit and manage array jobs
- Submit parallel jobs
- Troubleshoot common problems
Prerequisites
- Intro to Linux module or equivalent knowledge
- School of Life Science cluster account
